I have lived in, or around, Jesmond in Newcastle for 8 years now – ever since I started University. There are lots of great bars, hotels and restaurants in Jesmond as well as great shops and services; the problem has always been finding them.
So, instead of complaining even more so I decide to create a site that shows all the businesses and events in Jesmond. Businesses can sign up to the site for free or users can pay a small fee to add an event.
It’s an idea I’ve had ever since my flatmates at University did a print map for student packs as part of their degree – I thought the Internet would be a much better medium to present the idea. It’s a bit like James Cameron with Avatar in that I’ve not had the skills up until now to deliver a full solution in order to deliver the site I want – I didn’t want to produce something normal.
It’s already getting over 2,000 hits per month with no advertising so hopefully this is a site that can serve the community well for years to come!
